I
bring you warm greetings from Down Syndrome International
(DSI) and wish to inform you that DSI has officially earmarked
21 March as World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). The date was chosen
to signify the uniqueness of Down syndrome in the triplication
(trisomy) of the 21st chromosome and is used synonymously
with Down syndrome.
To launch the inaugural WDSD,
Down Syndrome Association [DSA] (Singapore) will be commemorating
the occasion on Tuesday, 21 March 2006 with a series of events
and activities. DSI members and related organisations worldwide
will be encouraged to observe the WDSD together with the community
in an appropriate manner. I wish to personally extend an invitation
to you to join regional countries in sending participants
to Singapore to the inaugural celebrations. The activities
and events planned by DSA (Singapore) are expected to draw
widespread coverage and exposure on Down syndrome. A special
travel package will be made available to regional participants.
The objective
of WDSD is to commemorate, create and accomplish a competent
level of awareness and understanding of Down syndrome. The
desired outcome of WDSD is to highlight the potentials and
abilities of people with Down syndrome to be an integral part
of an inclusive community.
Events & Activities
DSA (Singapore)
has decided to use the WDSD on 21 March 2006 to launch its

the objective of commemorating WDSD, the following events
