I am so excited to celebrate with the world
about Down Syndrome. This is a great organization
Thank you. For World Down Syndrome Day we celebrated
it by including my daughters school class in on
the fun. I went to her school and talked to a class
full of first graders about the day and what it
meant to my daughter Joby who is 7 and in a full
inclusion environment at her neighboring school.
The kids were excited to be a part of it to say
the least. I brought in 21 balloons not one the
same color, I asked the kids what they felt the
balloons had in common which each other. They came
up with more similarity's and only one difference.
The time was spent talking about our abilities and
how much we all have in common. We then took the
balloons outside and released them into the air
to watch them all sore high together.......
I feel if we teach all children while they
are young about tolerance, acceptance, and inclusion
we would all live in a much better world.
The message for this day is " We are more
alike than we are different."
Thank you for this forum.
Sincerely,
Jill Austin

Well done on raising the awareness of the potential
of children and adults with Down Syndrome.
My son Rory turns 10 this year. He could read
before commencing Grade 1 and has been the top reader
in his mainstream class thus far.
It is so very important to recognise the inherent
dignity of people with Down Syndrome. Our equality
as individuals comes from the fact that we are all
equally unique, and Down Syndrome is but one expression
of that uniqueness.
