Down Syndrome International is...
ICM on "Helping children with Down Syndrome to Success " was jointly organized by Rotary Club of Mount Everest RCME and Down Syndrome Association of Nepal DSAN on 21st March on World Down Syndrome Day an evening with presentations on various topics related to Down syndrome and dinner /dance at Trade Tower , Thapathali , Kathmandu
The event inaugurated by the District Governor Rotarian Dilendra Raj Shrestha by lighting the Pannus for success of workshop . Program started with welcome speech by Ashish Joshi child with Down syndrome who highlighted " What Down syndrome is" ending with a plea to do something to uplift the lives of this community
The participants were from varied fields rotarians, doctors, college students ,media , expectant mothers,friends, families and parents of children with Down syndrome. The topics of presentations included Importance of early intervention , inclusive education , occupational therapy , dental issues and prenatal diagnostic options. There was Q/A session at end of presentation .
There was a Panel discussion on " Inclusion of children with Down syndrome Challenges / opportunities" with healthy debate between participants and panelists .
The ICM was a storming success and appreciated by all with comments that it was a totally new experience clarifying the unknown field of the extra chromosome 21 abnormality .Some had thought that DOWN meant downtrodden because of their mental / physical disabilities
The workshop ended with awards to speakers and felicitation of 2 children for outstanding performance welcome speech and dance .
