World Down Syndrome Day 2009

World Down Syndrome Day 2009 will be celebrated on 21st March. The date was chosen to signify the relevance of Trisomy 21. (3/21).

As President of Down Syndrome International I invite you all to participate in recognising and celebrating that day worldwide, to acknowledge our community of people with Down Syndrome who have made such wonderful progress over the past decades.

Down Syndrome International at its Board meeting in March 2008 decided that a theme would not be set by the international body and that individual organisations should be encouraged to select their own theme each year which is relevant to their situation and advertise this on the World Down Syndrome Day and Down Syndrome International websites (www.ds-int.org).

Photos and reports of the day should then be posted as soon as possible afterwards for all to enjoy. Plan now for this big event, whether it be a local, district or national lets all get involved so that we truly have a worldwide celebration.
