Noah and family from the United Kingdom
I’m a first-time parent to Noah.
My husband and I were told how ‘different’ it was going to be compared to having a baby without Down syndrome.
We heard this a lot, thankfully not from any medical professionals but from friends and family mostly.
We never quite understood what they meant.
Being our first child, we literally had nothing to compare it to.
Eventually, we would respond by saying “different to what?”
We’ve never been parents before so what you think is different is actually just our parenting journey.
It isn’t ‘different’ to us. It just is.
The best way to promote awareness of Down syndrome is for people with Down syndrome to share their own stories in their own words.
